Students will examine complex text to evaluate Hammurabi's Code of Laws. Students will ultimately complete a written assessment formulating a position as to whether or not this code was just.**Formal assessment.
Students will also complete a bracket buster to review the impact of the empires.

Students will examine texts and media to gather details to compare the Assyrian Empire to the Neo-Babylonian Empire.
Ultimately, students will create a report card evaluating the leadership, daily life and innovations of each empire.

Vocab: empire, tribute
Students will examine two texts to evaluate the achievements and impact of two ancient empires (Akkadian and Babylonian) and then evaluate each empire from differing perspectives.

Session 23: Ancient Sumer
Students will analyze text to assess the criteria for being deemed a civilization. Next, they will examine artifacts from Ancient Sumer to determine if it was a civilization.
Homework: Penny Analysis-Student will either draw, etch or print out an image of a penny (front and back). They will then look for evidence proving we are a civilization. They must find evidence of each characteristic of a civilization. Students should annotate the penny. This is a hand-in assignment. This should not be done in their composition book.
